I have searched the existing feature requests, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate request.

The feature

An official MCP server would replace the current reliance on experimental community projects (e.g. the immature third‑party rep).

That lowers the risk of data corruption and breakage on Immich upgrades.

To be honest i am not sure what i would ask the AI to do on my library, but if it works out maybe beyond obscurity there might be some usecases with automatic tagging or so.

Maybe someone else has here a good idea or use case?

I think this sort of thing is perfectly suited to a community project working against our API. We have no plans to implement it directly in Immich.

There can be some incredible automations with Immich MCP + n8n + GenAI tools.

Imagine being to make a workflow which "whenever a photo of Jane enters immich, send to google banana nano and with the prompt "make me look better" then send that image back to Immich.

Or something fun like "whever photo of bob appears on immich" > email to parents > create 15second video with some prompt > upload to immich.

It would be really great if the MCP was implemented directly as community projects break all the time on API updates.

MCP should be probably generated in an automated fashion from the API definitions. I am working on a similar project connecting gRRPC protobuf definitions to MCP. What is important the the human language description of each tool. It can be also AI generated as well. But it would be cool to be able to talk to you album. "Do you remember X vacation and creates a reel for you".

Some ideas for MCP capabilities for Immich

• AI (LLM) are enpowered to search for related content within your image library.
• Moments or Memory compilation based on a theme
• Enable API to tag a image.
